Back in May 2008, it was Floyd “Money” Mayweather allegedly sprinkling fake $100 bills around Atlanta. Now it seems like there’s a nationwide issue with people passing counterfeit bills.

Somewhere in Central Florida, a couple contacted the authorities after receiving counterfeit bills from one of the nations largest banks, Wachovia. The couple says when they tried to deposit the dollars into Bank of America, to pay off some bills, the teller noticed something strange. The couple and the teller looked closely at 10 of the 36 bills and determined that they were indeed fake.

The Garcia’s were planning to get married in a few months and use that money to do big things. But now this circumstance has put them in a wrench because Wachovia has not refunded their money.

“It is really frustrating for us,” Mr. Garcia said. “The bank is not doing anything about it. (It’s) just not giving us any solutions at all.”

Mr. Garcia says Wachovia has ripped him off and he’s since notified the sheriff’s office, the Secret Service, and the media.

A Wachovia representative has released a statement claiming that they aren’t refunding the money because they cannot confirm that the $1000 received by Garcia were the same bills he took to Bank of America to deposit. (Source)
