Manhattan real estate mogul, Charles S. Cohen of Cohen Brothers Realty, recently took his love for movies to another level. After hearing that his lawyer’s wife, Courtney Hunt, was in need of financing for her new film project “Frozen River”, Cohen dropped $400,000 to get the project started.

Cohen’s company has built many Class-A office buildings in Manhattan. In college, Cohen made short films and even wrote a movie trivia book. He says this film project is “as exhilarating as building a magnificent new skyscraper.”

“Frozen River” is a story of two women in financial despair who decide to smuggle illegals in effort to keep their families together. The independent film recently took the grand jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Sony Pictures Classic paid $1 million for its distribution rights.

The film opens in New York and Los Angeles this week and will premiere in 50 cities nationwide. (Source)
