Brides Magazine has a new editor chief in chief and she’s making history. For the first time in 103 years, Condé Nast Publications has made an African-American woman the head chic in charge of one of their 18 consumer magazines.

Keija Minor was recently given the title of editor in chief of the world’s largest bridal magazine which is “the go-to source for all things weddings.” The Howard University School of Law graduate who changed gears with her career was once the editor in chief of Gotham and Uptown magazines. Prior to her editor in chief gig with Brides, she was the executive editor of the magazine.

While Minor’s advancement is a major milestone for the media company, they made it clear that her being African-American had nothing to do with their decision to put her at the top. “Keija wasn’t selected because of the color of her skin. She was picked because she is the right editor for the job at the right time. She knows the magazine, her staff, and more importantly, she has the will to succeed,” said Thomas Wallace, editorial director at Condé Nast.

As for Keija Minor, she says, for me, it’s about being the best editor I can be…give readers inspirational and accessible ideas they can act on through media.”

Now that’s what we call a power move…Congratulations Ms. Keija Minor!
