Becoming only the fourth hip-hop act to do so, the infamous rap group Public Enemy has earned a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group which consists of Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Griff, Terminator X, Dj Lord, and the S1W’s will join the likes of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys.

With their name on the hall’s list of inductees for 2013, the group is finally getting their just due. Considering their musical accomplishments and barrier breaking reputation which dates back more than twenty years ago, they can definitely be credited for helping lay the foundation and create a path for hip-hop’s place in music today.

About the honor, Chuck D told AllHipHop.com,

“A group is what we’ve been these past 25 years, 84 countries, 85 tours. We are the sum of great individuals who have followed Hip-Hop’s elemental blueprint of collective necessary to be considered comparable to stand up to the many great musicians, genres, artists before and alongside. We are seriously thankful and share this achievement with our Hip-Hop and rap music idiom.”

In addition to the induction of Public Enemy, singer Donna Summer who died earlier this year will be inducted posthumously while Quincy Jones will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award that’s given for non-performers.

Adding to the history making moment for the inductees, this is also the first time ever that fans were able to vote for the inductees. Their votes were tallied along with the Hall of Fame committee’s votes.

The 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on April 18, 2013 with the ceremony being broadcast on HBO on May 18, 2013 at 9 p.m. [EST].
