Damn Lauryn…this is so unfortunate. But, look on the bright side, she only has to spend 90 days in jail.

Yesterday, rapper/singer/songrwriter Lauryn Hill turned herself into authorities to begin her jail sentence. Hill plead guilty to tax evasion charges back in June 2012. She had failed to pay over $1.8 million in taxes stemming from 2005 to 2007. Originally, Hill was facing a three year prison sentence but eventually paid up most of her debt earlier this year (approx. $900,000). This caused the judge to reduce her sentence to just three months and three months on house arrest.

Hill’s first 24 hours prison life doesn’t seem to be all bad. She’s housed in a minimum security “dormitory-like” living quarters in Danbury, Connecticut. The inmates that are serving time there are responsible for landscaping, food service, and  some maintenance work.

The once multi-million dollar entertainer has always justified why she refused to pay Uncle Sam. She previously made a statement online saying that she “embraced [her] right to resist a system intentionally opposing [her] right to whole and integral survival.”

 Keep ya’ head up, sis!
