The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Redskins 33-27 in the first Monday Night Football game of the season. Eagles Rookie Head Coach, Chip Kelly, high-powered offense seem to be a good fit for the Eagles. Running Back LeSean McCoy rushed for 184 yards and a touchdown and Quarterback Michael Vick passed for 203 yards, 2 touchdowns and ran for a rushing touchdown. Redskins Quarterback Robert Griffin III returned to his first game since injuring his knee in the playoffs. Griffin passed for 329 yards, 2 touchdowns and a career high 2 interceptions. This game was a blowout, the Eagles led 33-7 late in the third quarter and the Redskins went on to score three late touchdowns.

In the second Monday Night game, the Houston Texans scored 24 unanswered points to defeat the San Diego Chargers 31-28. Texans Linebacker Brian Cushing returned a interception late in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Kicker Randy Bullock kicked the game winning field goal as time expired. Texans Quarterback Matt Schaub passed for 345 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception and Wide Receiver Andre Johnson had a game high: 12 catches for 146 yards. Chargers Quarterback Philip Rivers passed for 195 yards, 4 touchdowns and a 1 interception. The Chargers only managed 90 yards in the second half, that and Rivers interception was one of the reasons they lost the game.
