I don’t know what others have to say, but I am still getting used to the idea of all this “movement” between venues. When I first started frequenting the A3C, everything (and I mean everything) was in ONE area. Nowadays, you have to drive around here and there, hope that you can find parking, and make sure that you are at the right spot. It can be a hassle. In short, attending the A3C has become more work than usual. That still doesn’t keep the festival from being as entertaining as possible. It is just that you are torn between travelling around the city to see as much as possible and staying in one spot for most of your day.

Thus, I picked the Variety Playhouse for my first night. And I must say that I am glad that I made that choice.

Rockness Monstah: for anyone looking for that rap that hearkens back into the “95 Era” of things, then you missed a treat. Rock held nothing back when he hit the stage. The majority of the crowd was more than happy to peep him do his thing on the stage.

Skyzoo: forever the agile wordsmith, Sky did nothing short of go through some hits that all his fans were familiar with. Plus, when he hit us off with that Range Rover Rhythm, I knew it was over from there. Oh, and please believe that other performed tracks were just as potent. Adding a live horn player to the mix and you have something more acoustic than ever. But you will see in the videos.

Jean Grae: I personally think she should become a comedienne. However, since her rap demand still remains strong, I can understand her desire to perform for hip hop crowds. She was either cracking jokes or coming with dope rhymes. Peep the video to see what I am talking about.

Bonus: Pharoahe Monch!!!

With all of this said, the Variety Playhouse had some acts for you to enjoy. That is, unless you weren’t an “underground hip hop head”. Then you probably thought they sucked. Otherwise, I would suggest that you watch the videos and peep out whatever it is you missed out on.
