Kendrick-Lamar

The BET Hip Hop Awards 2013 aired last night with millions of viewers tuned in to see their favorite artists. Many of the artist took home awards, but L.A.’s Kendrick Lamar lead the pack with a total of 5 awards.

  • Best Featured Verse
  • Lyricist of the Year
  • Best Collabo
  • MVP of the Year
  • Album of the Year

The Top Dawg Entertainment artist has been on everyone’s radar since he dropped his first album M.A.A.D. City. Since then, he’s reached a new height in fan appreciation and respect from his peers. Most recently, however, Kendrick sparked a big controversy when he released a lethal 16-bars on Big Sean’s “Control” song.  He called out many of his peers, not in disrespect, but as homage for them being some of the young cats (in his league) that he admire. In the song, he also called himself the King of New York.  This didn’t sit too well with a few New York rappers. Needless to say, the hoopla surrounding the “Control” verse has died down. Until the BET Hip Hop awards rolled around.

In another blow to the dome, Kendrick used his time during the TDE cypher to continue his wrath on the competition. Once again he proved why he’s one of the best and not afraid to challenge other emcees. Not to take away from the rest of the TDE camp…SchoolBoy Q, Jay Rock, and Ab-Soul all did their thing. When you think of lyricists as a group, TDE is right up there with Slaughterhouse. A group of young men that bring their A game to the mic consistently.

But, in case you missed Kendrick’s verse, we’ve got it for you.

Dammit man! We are still in awe about Kendrick’s verse. People can hate on the man. But you can not deny that he has the “it” factor and he truly has talent as a lyricist.
