Jay Z is undeniably one of the most diversified entertainers when it comes to the businesses he ventures into. As such, it wasn’t the biggest surprise when he launched a sports management agency. With the building of the Barclay Center and recent acquisitions of high profile athletes, Jay Z is determined to leave his mark on the sports world.

Unfortunately, with much reward comes issues.  Jay Z is rumored to be under investigation by the Major League Baseball Players Association. According to the regulations of the MLBPA, a sports agents are not supposed to give gifts are money to a player. This tactic is considered a form of persuasion to get that player to continue his representation agreement with that agency. This is exactly what the MLBPA believes happened in the case of New York Yankee Robinson Cano.

In October 2013, Jay Z presented Cano with a Hublot one-of-a-kind ‘Shawn Carter Classic Fusion’ $34,000.00 watch. The watch was given to Cano during his 31st birthday celebration in Belgium.  Regulations specify that players who are already clients, should only receive gifts (over $500) after the union has been notified in writing.  Jay Z did not do this.

The MLBPA doesn’t deny or confirm that an investigation is taking place. A representative stated that internal matters are not made public.

A spokesperson for Roc Nation sports agency has not responded to these allegations either.
