STREETPOETSNYC

With prisons and jail cells over-populated with minorities and uneducated men (and women), it is great to see a group that’s making a difference by providing a resource to end inmate illiteracy.

Street Poets NYC Collective, is a group of artists who perform, promote, network with a strong need to empower the community through positive artistry. As part of their community give back this year, the group launched an initiative to help raise the educational standards of inmates. “Donate A Book To An Inmate” project’s goal is to collect 1000 books (for 1000 inmates). Books collected will be sent to juvenile detention centers, jails and prisons.

The “Donate A Book To An Inmate” initiative will kick-off on December 20, 2013 at Thee Open Mic.
