Kill The Pride…Accepting A Low-Paying Job Isn’t So Bad

Once the recession hit, many people found themselves laid-off from their place of employment. The unemployment rate sky-rocketed because outsourcing was the way major companies created cost-efficient work forces. For the average person, being unemployed truly happened at the wrong time. The housing market saw more foreclosures. The middle-class quickly became the lower-class. One of the reasons was because companies were simply not hiring. Corporations were in survival mode themselves. So, this cut back on the growth of their work force.

What is surprising through this economical transition is that some people began taking their unemployed state for granted. A person who once made $80,000 a year refused to take a lower-paying job. Opportunities at McDonald’s and Walmart was not even an option. Pride prevented money from coming into the household. When utility services were shut off and rent was late, it was the individual’s fault.

As an unemployed person, it isn’t so bad to work for less money. Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture. You may decide to accept a job paying $12.00 a hour. OK, cool. Realize that this is your foot in the door. If the job is with a major company, there will be other internal job opportunities. The best thing to do is be grateful for the job you have. But, keep your finger on the pulse of upcoming postings that your work history and education are best suited for. We’ve seen people work a $12/hour job for 6-months and quickly transition to a higher-paying position.  This could be you…easily.

Don’t allow self-pride to hold you back from making money. You can always take those few dollars and save up also. What would you rather have? No Money? Or some money?
