How Successful People Overcome Lack of Motivation

One of the biggest myths about people who failed at a business venture is that their company experienced financial problems. It is true, this does happens. But, it is not the only reason. In fact, many businesses fail because of the mental state of the individual behind running it.

Depression affects many people, whether extreme cases or small incidents where a person may be feeling down and out.  The period of time that lapse during this “down time” causes one to become unmotivated. During this time, they may have set a goal but because of the their lack of motivation, their desire to win fades away. Without having an internal and physical desire to win, a person can be successful.

According to author and life coach, Tony Robbins, there are two forces that motivate people to do what they do: the desire to avoid pain or the desire to gain pleasure. This is called a “yo-yo pattern” or as we call it, the “up and down”.  In order to create a permanent mindset or mood, Robbins says you have to develop a new set of patterns. These patterns must consciously show us how to use pain to help motivate ourselves. And as gratification seeps in from the depressed state, we should allow the pleasure to dictate our behavior – thus making us maintain the desire to be successful.

The process sounds complicated. Once you begin to make conscious efforts to stay motivated, however, the process will become second-nature.

To be successful in anything, it starts mentally. If you are someone who suffers with a form of depression, practice this concept suggested by Robbins. Avoid falling to the cycle of not finishing projects, being sad if you failed at something, and so on. This cycle only hinder you from reaching your full potential. Work hard. Stay motivated. Succeed!
