The season premiere of Kandi Burruss’ spin-off aired last night. “Kandi’s Wedding” started off with Kandi gathering her crew to begin the process of planning her dream wedding.  The theme of the wedding is taken from the movie “Coming to America”, in which the African-inspired extravaganza will feature all things reminiscent of the ceremony in the film. To help get things together, Kandi’s longtime friend/assistant Carmon is skeptical of her new assignment. Plus, the pressure of being Kandi’s assistant has spilled over into their friendship.

The take-away from this first episode is in regards to friends in working relationships. Check out Kandi and Carmon’s big blow-up HERE.

So, the question is…Should Friends Work Together?

As a business woman, I’ve learned that it is indeed difficult to resolve business-related problems with friend-to-friend emotions.  No one wants to hurt the others feelings, nor dead a life-long friendship. The maturity-level of both parties is what’s important. If either person isn’t mature enough to separate business from friendship, then there will be disagreements.

In addition to being mature, friends should decide what’s more important (friendship or a job). If the friendship is more important, then you need to end the working relationship. Bottom line. If Kandi is like me, she like things done right and on time. I, personally, do not like excuses. I don’t tolerate negativity. If you are a friend that likes to complain or continuously find excuse after excuse for not getting a task done, eventually I’m going to confront the issue. And as a “friend”, you may not like my approach to the issue. You may become a bit sensitive about it. But, as a business owner, it is imperative that an employee understand what is expected.

Carmon’s decision to fall back a little is best. This gives her time to stick to the tasks that she’s given and produce the work. Also, this will give Kandi time to assess the working relationship and friendship and decide where she wants Carmon in her life going forward.

“Kandi’s Wedding” airs Sunday nights at 8pm EST on Bravo.

If two friends are mature enough and have the same common goals, they can work together, but if one of them are slacking and think they won’t be let go because they are friends, it won’t work. The business won’t go anywhere, and chances are the friendship won’t last. The same goes with family. I know this from experience.
