Yesterday, Angie Martinez announced that she was leaving Hot 97.  After 20 years of service, the “Voice of New York” stepped away from her post and radio station that helped cultivate so many of her career highlights.  The news of her departure stunned New Yorkers and many of her fans worldwide. She expressed her sentiments via a heartfelt photo and caption via Instagram.

“This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways,” Martinez, 43, wrote on Instagram. “Saying goodbye is always emotional and bittersweet but I am extremely excited about the future.

“Today will be my last show.”

Martinez was best known for her down-to-earth approach while on the radio. Her humble presence made it easy for many A-list celebrities to speak candidly and reveal inside info that made Martinez one of the best. During her career, she’s sat down with Jay Z, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and many others.

The question that is buzzing now is “what will Angie do next?”  Some speculates that she will take a position over at 97’s rival Power 105.1. But, at this point in her career, Angie should strongly think about television. She would be a great addition to “The View”.
