Just when you thought high-end designer stores were “for the people”…

Oliver Koffi, a sales associate at LV’s London Selfridge’s store, recently filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the luxury brand. He claims that his former manager create a “hostile and intimidating” environment after making several racial remarks about black people. In his lawsuit, Koffi states that during a discussion between himself, the manager, and a few more employees, the boss stated that “black people are slaves and eat dirt off the floor.”  Koffi confronted the manager whom shied off the comment as just a “joke.”

Reports reveal that the manager has since been fired, but the company is still the primary defendant in the lawsuit.

A spokesperson for Louis Vuitton expressed that the company “has a zero-tolerance policy to harassment of any kind. This reported sentiment is in total violation of the Louis Vuitton Ethical charter. This issue was investigated, and the manager in question no longer works within the company.”

Should Louis Vuitton be responsible for its employee’s racial comments?
