Nicki Minaj’s new “Anaconda” video went viral after being released on Wednesday (Aug. 20) on Vevo. Nicki’s single samples Sir Mix-A-Lot’s 1992 hit “Baby Got Back” specifically the lyric: “My anaconda don’t want none unless you got buns, hun.”

When Sir Mix-A-Lot released “Baby Got Back” there was a lot of talk surrounding the track’s sexual lyrics about women. The video was banned temporarily by MTV. However, “Baby Got Back” won a Grammy Award and became the second best-selling single that year to Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”  Now, “Anaconda” is sparking a lot of chatter about Minaj’s lap dance with rapper Drake and Nicki’s ASSests.

It’s amazing how both have people talking, but about different things. Sir Mix-A-Lot was ridiculed for exploiting women and Nicki (who is a woman) is putting herself and other women out in the open displaying their twerk potential and has received few critics. What’s the difference in the songs with the same message?  The generation and the messenger, but solely the society we live in today.

Sir Mix-A-Lot sounds impressed with it, he tweeted this week about Minaj’s much-talked-about video.

“Ok after watching @NICKIMINAJ Anaconda 37times I only have one word to sum up my feelings. DAMNNNNN!!!!!!”

Nicki responded saying, “LMFAOOOOO. Life is so crazy. Thank you Sir MixALot. Still influencing us decades later. YouDaMan” via Instagram.

“Anaconda” will appear on Minaj’s upcoming third studio album, The Pinkprint. Nicki Minaj is scheduled to perform live on the VMA’s taking place at the Forum in Inglewood, California this Sunday on MTV @ 9pm.
