4 Ways to Maintain Good Credit

The idea of getting your credit score up always seems like a daunting task.  Even though credit repair services are available, consumers should not kill their credit score because there is an “easy” way to repair it. The best way to prevent your credit score from dropping is by acting responsibly.

For people who currently has average to excellent credit, here are four ways to make sure you maintain it:

  • Pay bills on time – create a habit of paying bills on time and in full each month
  • Limit the number of credit cards – three or four credit cards at max; keep them for several years
  • Maintain low balances and use no more than 30 percent your available credit – do not accept pre-approved card offers in the mail or retail credit cards
  • Check your credit report annually – obtain your one FREE credit report annually from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion; review report and contact agency if errors are found

Consumers can visit AnnualCreditReport.com or MyFICO.com to order their free credit reports and/or find out information regarding their credit score.

If you see that you are heading towards the #BadDebtZone, contact a credit counselor or your creditor.  Most creditors will work with you and help determine a manageable payment option.  There is always a way out. It may take some time – but with these helpful tips – you should see your credit score improve tremendously.
