‘The Interview’ Rakes In $15M In Online Revenue

In just four days, Sony Pictures’ The Interview raked in over $15 million in online revenue.

The Interview debuted on Christmas Eve on various online platforms: Google Play Store, YouTube Movies, Xbox Live, and via SeeTheInterview.com.  The film’s “day-and-date” release allowed for Sony Pictures and distributors to capitalize off of the moment, which helped the film fair quite well online.

Released in the U.S. and in Canada, The Interview acquired $15 million from both online streaming and rentals. Sony says the film was rented or purchased 2 million times. To stream the film, viewers paid $5.99 and $14.99 to download and own.

Besides online sales, The Interview could be seen in 331 theaters. Total box office revenue to date is $2.8 million.
