Rome wasn’t formed in a day and neither were bad habits and relationships many people are planning to leave behind in 2014.

If you’re really serious about transforming your life and becoming the “new you,” then a sure way to lose momentum and revert back to your old ways is to try to do everything on your Resolution’s List all at once.

In order to create long lasting results and replace old habits with new ones, there is one simple trick anyone can begin doing today that will help them become the best version of themselves. That trick is to create a theme each month of the year related to one or two goals on your New Year’s Resolution List.

For example, if you want to get toned and eat healthier, you can spend January solely focused on those two goals. If you want to build stronger relationships with family or friends, February can be focused on that, and so on. The reason why this technique works is because it’s less overwhelming and it only takes 21 days of repetition for a new habit to form. If everyday for 21 days you’re being that new you in fitness, your relationships, or your character, then you will pick up that new habit and essentially be the new you. The key, then, is to stick with it.

So if you have a general idea of everything you want to leave behind in 2014 and have written down all the ways you’ll be the new you, begin living out a theme each month this year to focus on a goal or two at a time. Ultimately, you’ll feel good about yourself and be proud of how much you were able to accomplish using this method. Good luck!
