And Another One…’R&B Divas Atlanta’ Axed By TV One

RB-Divas-Atlanta-Season-3

What’s really going on around here? Is there some conspiracy against our African-American sisters and their place on television? Well, it looks like there is. Not only did we report that “Sorority Sisters” were getting the boot, but now the popular “R&B Divas Atlanta” franchise will not return to television next season either.

According to AlwaysAlist.com, TV One’s President, Brad Siegel, made no mention of “R&B Divas Atlanta” while presenting upcoming projects to the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles. To concur, it’s being reported that several of the cast members received notification that the show was officially cancelled.

Word is…that TV One may have cancelled the show due to two things: excessive production costs/funding requests OR drama surrounding the pending lawsuit from Nicci Gilbert against TV One.

Nicci Gilbert, former executive and creator of “R&B Divas,” filed a lawsuit about Kandi Burruss’s husband, Todd Tucker, and Carlos King’s “spin-off” show “Hollywood Divas.” Initially, the network stated that “Hollywood Divas” was not a “spin-off” of Gilbert’s show. However, a press announcement issued by TV One specified the opposite. If “Hollywood Divas” is a spin-off, then we’re sure Gilbert started asking, “Well, where is my money from this show?”  And, rightfully so!

Gilbert is suing for breach of contract, fraudulent inducement, and a slew of other claims.  The case is still pending.

“R&B Divas Atlanta” starred Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Syleena Johnson, Keke Wyatt, Monifah Carter, LaTocha Scott, Angie Stone LaTavia Roberson and Meelah Williams. Evans, Gilbert, Stone and Scott appeared for one or two seasons, then departed.

As the networks highest rated franchise, it will be silly to cancel it. But, with lawsuits and production costs stacking up, TV One may consider “R&B Divas Atlanta” a wash.

Interesting….
