In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Nicki Minaj’s ex-boyfriend Safaree set the record straight regarding a lot of unanswered questions. Their relationship, which began in a group called the Hood Stars, has been slightly hidden from the public since Nicki’s rise to fame. The release of her latest album, The Pinkprint, gave fans an opportunity to hear more about their relationship. But, at the time of the album’s release, it was made known that the two had parted ways.

Nicki is now rumored to be linked to Philly rapper Meek Mill. As Safaree states in the interview, certain “cornball” comments that she’s recently made on social media was the final straw and the reason why he decided to speak out now.

Despite their failed relationship, the financial aspect has fans wondering if Safaree will take Nicki to court for his share of the riches. We all know that he was very influential in her music career, from selecting beats to writing lyrics. Of course, the question came up about the role he played in her career. And, Safaree wasn’t hesitant to speak on why he should’nt be discredited.

Charlamagne: So, you would help Nicki write?

Safaree: Of course.

Charlamagne: So, at the BET Awards, she kinda like sh**ed on people for not writing. But, she didn’t write a 100% herself??

Safaree: [silent]

Angela Yee: I think a lot of artists don’t. Everybody don’t write…

Safaree: Everybody gets help.

Angela Yee: I mean like if in the studio, you give her a line or some ideas. I think it’s probably hard for anybody to write everything all the time.

Safaree: Yo, everybody gets help…and there’s nothing wrong with getting help. You know what I’m saying. When I’m in the studio and I’m working on stuff. I be with my producer. His name is Travis Crates. He be like man you should say this. Everybody gets help from everybody.

DJ Envy then goes on to ask Safaree about his share of her earnings, in which he vaguely replies. Recently, as Angela Yee points out, the Jamaican rapper is making moves to make sure that he’s squared away legally.

Safaree: Yeah. What’s fair is fair. You can’t take away things that I’ve contributed. So, as far as that, I’m not out here worrying about how I’m going to get my next meal.

He speaks more on that at the 13:00 mark in the video above.

From a business standpoint, it will be wise for Safaree to consult with an attorney and make sure that the paperwork is in place. Nicki Minaj has emassed a fortune. But, she would not have reached that point without the help of her former love.

We’re not sure if they will ever reconcile as lovers. But, we hope those two the best.
