GOOD DEED: One Oklahoma Univ. Student Raises Funds for SAE’s Black Chef

In the aftermath of the SAE’s racist bus ride, all residents of their frat house are being kicked out and their chef is too.

Howard Dixon, the black chef for the fraternity, has cooked for the organization for fifteen years. But, unfortunately, he is now out of a job because of this ordeal that has embarrassed the University of Oklahoma. According to The Grio, Dixon says he thought of the fraternity members as “family.”

“I think that was kind of stupid and selfish for them to do something like that,” Dixon said. “And knowing this is an organization, and knowing this is an organization that’s supposed to be about brotherhood. That wasn’t no brotherhood.”

Luckily, Blake Burkhart was proactive and created an Indiegogo account for Chef Dixon. Burkhart’s goal is to make the best out of a bad situation and knew that an online fundraiser could give Dixon a little stability until a new job opportunity came along. So far, the account has raised $39,000 on behalf of Chef Dixon. The goal is $50,000.

“That man is going to walk up to the SAE house tomorrow morning and hear that he no longer has a job,” Burkhart wrote on the fundraising page. “He is going to learn who has been working for. And through some cruel twist of fate, he has to lose the job that he has held for over a decade. He is going to lose his job because of a bus full of racist kids.”

Despite the incident, it’s good to see that there are some kind-hearted people in the world.
