Instagram Introduces New @Music Platform for Unsigned Artists

Instagram Music

Musicians and artists…Instagram has created a new community strictly dedicated to you all called @Music.  The community will service all things music by offering dedicated hashtags (or subcategories) to artists. For instance, #15SecondLessons will showcase how-to lessons on music performance. #LocallySourced will feature unsigned artists and bands, which will be managed by a group of Instagram music enthusiasts. #DoubleTrack is another subcategory that will explore musicians interests outside of music.

The idea to create @Music is Instagram’s way of bringing like-minded users together who all share a common interest or hobby. According to Forbes, over 25 percent of all platform activity on Instagram is centered around music. That percentage is also highly driven by artists such as Beyonce (with 30.8 million followers and the platform’s most followed artist), Arianna Grande (30 million), Selena Gomez (28.9 million) and Taylor Swift (28.2 million).

The @Music account will update six times a week and focus more on unsigned acts. The difficulty of unsigned artists featured on @Music is locating all the indie artists on Instagram. We are guessing that it’ll be the users responsibility to follow @Music. If not, then Instagram’s new community will go undetected and/or seem useless.
