Sprint is probably the most talked about telecommunications company we’ve ever heard of, especially when it comes to awful network coverage. But yet, Sprint has millions of customers that live and die by their brand. Well, as of the last year, the federal government wasn’t too happy with Sprint either. Apparently, the company tried to stiff them with a $21 million overcharge for court-ordered wiretaps.

Sprint Communications Inc. billed several federal agencies – including the FBI and DEA – and billed them excessive amounts to collect and deliver information gathered during wiretaps. The lawsuit against Sprint claimed that Sprint inflated their wiretapping fees by 58% from 2007 to 2010, which included financing costs and other line items that were not acceptable by the Federal Communications Commission.

The U.S. government proved their point in the courtroom and has won a settlement of $15.5 million.

Sprint still says that the government’s allegations are false.
