Deron Williams Signs $10 Million Contract with Mavericks

Deron Williams and the Brooklyn Nets agreed to a buyout agreement and Williams agreed to a two-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Williams signed a two-year $10 million deal with the Mavs. Williams will be the Mavs starting point guard after the Mavs lost Rajon Rondo to free agency. Williams averaged 13.0 points, 6.6 assists and 3.5 last season for the Nets. The 13 points was Williams second lowest of his career and lowest since his Rookie season.

Williams hasn’t been the same point guard the last two years and his production on the court has dropped a lot. Williams is former NBA All-Star and at times seems like he doesn’t care about winning. Some players and analysts feel Williams cares more about money than actually winning. Williams is from Dallas, maybe a change of scenery and a different team will motivate him to play better. If he averages more than 15 points a game, Dallas should be happy with that. This may be a bad signing for the Mavs, but has the potential to be low risk and high reward.
