Sad images have surfaced the internet after a picture of 5 year-old Syrian toddler Aylan Kurdi dead body lay face down on a Turkish beach. Kurdi drowned after trying to reach the Greek island of Jos with several other refugees that were trying to escape the war in Syria.

The Kurdi family had been planning to escape on a small boat from Bodrum, which flipped over also killing his mother, Rhiana, and brother Ghaleb according to reports.

This child is one of thousands that have died while trying to escape the civil war. An estimated 240,000 people – including children – have died since the Syrian Civil War began back in 2011. Nadhim Zahawi, a member of parliament from Cameron’s Conservative Party, said that the image should bring shame and that world leaders are failing in Syria.
