Pharrell Williams and Taylor Swift recently put their resources where it mattered.

First, Pharrell Williams launched a “Happy” campaign to get kids to read more. Williams and Penguin Young Readers partnered up to create FirstBook, a nonprofit literacy organization. The organization will donate 50,000 books to children in poverty stricken communities. The campaign has begun with the #readHappy hashtag where people to post notes or photos of why reading brings them happiness. All posts shared through social media will generate a donation.

“Every child on this planet deserves to experience the joy of reading,” says Williams.

And…

Taylor Swift took to a GoFundMe account to show her humanitarian spirit.

Swift surprised 11-year-old Naomi Oakes with a $50,000 donation to help save her life. According to USAToday, Naomi suffers from acute myelogenous leukemia, a form of cancer, and is expected to be hospitalized for the next six to nine months.

Naomi and her family got Swift’s attention after posting a video on YouTube. The video played “Bad Blood,” which has been her theme song through her battle with cancer. She expressed that she wasn’t able to attend an upcoming concert of the Grammy Award-winning singer. In addition to their own hashtag #TeamNaomi, the family was able to reach Swift who then donated $15,000 three times.

Swift also left a note: “To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts. Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”
