The 2015 Soul Train Awards aired on Centric and BET this past Sunday evening. The show, hosted by Erykah Badu, celebrated those artists who maintains the integrity of “soul” music and that produced outstanding projects throughout the year. Among the winners this year, two individuals were honored for their 15-plus years of artistry in the music industry. Singer Jill Scott was awarded the Lady of Soul Award and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds received the Legend Award.

During Jill Scott’s  speech, she stated that she feels privileged to be able to touch people through music. “It’s the culmination of 15 years of giving my heart and energy to an audience that appreciates it. It’s a real privilege to still be able to tap into people’s hearts and have ourselves look at ourselves. And for it to come from such a great legacy… This is Soul Train; this is what brought soul music into America’s houses.” She then sung a medley of hits, which included “Cross My Mind,” “Whatever,” and her new single “Back Together.” Later on, Jill Scott won award for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist.

Babyface’s Legend Award tribute brought back memories with the long list of hit songs he’s written throughout his career. To help with the celebration, Tevin Campbell performed “Can We Talk,” Brandy (“Sittin’ Up In My Room”), Fantasia (“Exhale” and “Superwoman”), Bobby Brown (“Roni”), and even Boyz II Men came out of the woodwork to do “I’ll Make Love to You” and “End of the Road.” Babyface also closed out the tribute with his own performance of “Whip Appeal.”   Longtime business partner and friend L.A. Reid presented Babyface with the Legend Award.
