Angela girl, you know that man still wants some of your tasty pastries. Romeo thinks he is slick!

Yes Gaawwd! Finally a reality show that does not involve liquor throwing, shade being thrown and no one jumping across the table to extend a knuckle sandwich to the other cast mates face. On Tuesday (Jan. 5), I got an opportunity to attend WEtv’s Atlanta premiere screening of the network’s newest reality show “Growing Up Hip Hop”. The show follows the lives of hip hop and R&B legends’ children: Angela Simmons, TJ Mizell, Kristinia DeBarge, Romeo Miller, Boogie Dash and the baby of the bunch newcomer Egypt Criss. The show details their lives growing up with famous parents. Now, as grown adults, they are handling their day-to-day hustles and stepping out of their parents shadows to brand themselves as young CEOs. Needless to say, the show did not disappoint. Even though the authenticity could be questioned at times, “Growing Up Hip Hop” only made me want to dive deeper into the lives of these celebrity kids every Thursday at 9pm Est.

Throughout the season premiere, appearances from Rev Run, Pep from the 80’s girl group Salt-N-Pepper, El DeBarge, and chatty patty himself mogul Dame Dash stop through and encouraged their kids into becoming the best they could be because all eyes are on them now.

Lightly covering the passing of legendary DJ Jam Master Jay, it was a bittersweet moment to see the bond that him and his son shared and how TJ is continuing his father’s legacy by being a DJ. Cameras also took us into Kristinia DeBarge’s life as the not so glamorous lifestyle. Unlike what the other celebrity kids had growing up, Kristinia reveals a stable but grounded upbringing in California with her mother. Krisitinia also debuts her new single entitled “Thinking Out Loud”. While in the studio, her uncle El DeBarge walks in and has a sentimental moment and urges her to not see her father in the condition that he has placed himself in.

Making his struggle loud and clear, while coming off very aggressive, is entrepreneur Dame Dash. He makes it boldly clear that Angela Simmons will never comprehend the hustle of a real entrepreneur because there was never a pistol put in her back being robbed at gunpoint with fear that she might die that night. And with that said, lets digress to the story line of Romeo Miller and Angela Simmons.

Clearly there are feelings still brewing as Romeo distracts his then girlfriend, who is of the opposite race, with spa days and hotel favors while he hangs on to Angela’s day-to-day business ventures. If you ask me, any man that wants to keep comparing his ex’s qualities to the newest situation is hoping she will pick up on them. This is a man who is not over his past at all. But no one asked me, so…I guess we will have tune in next week to continue the story line of their love triangle, Angela’s stalker, TJ’s DJing gigs, Boogie Dash’s ventures on becoming the next Top Chef in the kitchen, Kristinia’s music career, and little Pep a.k.a Egypt struggle to get in an over 21 club in New York City. She tried it! Yes she did, but a little advice, get a fake I.D. and try not going to the club with one of the most recognizable rappers of all time.
