Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez has decided to go with a different attorney to represent him in his second murder charge, as well as, the appeal for his 2015 murder conviction. His new attorney is reportedly Jose Baez, the high-profile lawyer widely known for successfully defending Casey Anthony (who was charged with murdering her 2-year-old daughter). Anthony was found not guilty in 2011.

Hernandez is currently facing life in prison for the murder of Odin Lloyd with no possibility of parole. His new charge is the double homicide of two Boston men, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, after Abreu accidentally spilled a drink on Hernandez in a nightclub in 2012. He reportedly circled the block in his SUV, waiting for the two men to exit the club before unloading a .38 caliber revolver into the victims’ car, killing them and injuring two others.

This case is expected to have copious video surveillance and an eyewitness, Alexander Bradley, a former friend to Hernandez. With so much evidence against him, Hernandez needs to have the best legal team. His team, led by Jose Baez, will include Harvard Law professor Ronald S. Sullivan Jr. and Alex Spiro, the attorney who has also represented NBA player Thabo Sefolosha.

“We understand that numerous reports of our client’s alleged activity have been published, but we ask the public to afford Mr. Hernandez the presumption of innocence and let the facts unfold in a court of law,” says Baez in a statement Thursday.
