Will Packer and his wife, Heather, hosted an intimate movie screening at their home last night. The pair showed Nate Parker’s The Birth of a Nation to several celebrity and industry friends and used the time to discuss the importance of historical representation onscreen.

Friends in attendance were Ambassador Andrew Young (Civil Rights and Political Icon), Kandi & Todd Tucker, Ludacris & Eudoxie, Big Boi (Outkast), Chaka Zulu (DTP), Michael Ealy (Actor), LeToya Luckett (Actress), Ceasar Mitchell (President, Atlanta City Council), Rob Hardy (Film Director), Ebony Barley (Director of Special Events, City of Atlanta).

Recently, Packer’s version of Roots hit the tube as a min-series. The film’s backdrop about slavery didn’t sit too well with some and, therefore, a bit of uproar ensued on social media and blogs.

The Birth of a Nation hits theaters on October 7, 2016.
