President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to make significant changes to how the U.S. is ran. One of the first items on the list concerns government employees and the Republican-heavy Congress is all here for it.

There are over 2.1 million federal civilian employees that operate throughout the various federal government agencies. Most of these employees has – over years – created the belief that working for the government is guaranteed for life. This thought process – Trump and other Republicans believe – has caused poor performance and unjustifiable pay raises and huge pension payouts. Therefore, Trump is on a mission to change all of that by reforming the system.

For Trump and his co-horts, the reform will include hiring freezes, a stop on automatic raises, firing of poor performers, ban of union business on the government money, and decreased pension plans.

A large majority of Republicans want to make it easier to fire employees who are incompetent or don’t follow agency rules. Plans to retirement benefits are priority, as well. Republicans like Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah would like retirement plans to work as 401(k) and be market-driven.

“It’s nearly impossible to fire somebody,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. “When the overwhelming majority do a good job and the one bad apple is there viewing pornography, I want people to be held accountable.”

In the first 100 days of office, some of these changes will go in effect. For instance, Trump promises to implement a hiring freeze by not hiring new talent if an existing government worker leaves their job. Trump has also promised to dismantle the Education Department and sections of the Environmental Protection Agency.  He’s also stated that two regulations will be eliminated for every new regulation passed.

Military and public health and safety roles are exempt from being done away with. Trump need military troops to assist with the increase of ships, planes. The immigration reform will include the hiring of more border patrol agents.

Trump’s opposition will come from the federal employee unions and Democrats.
