Last night, the 59th annual Grammy Awards aired and captured Adele dominating the competition. The British superstar won five awards including three of which were the top prizes (Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year) with album “25” and hit single “Hello.”

The Grammys opened up with the  28-year old singing “Hello,” which won for song of the year and record of the year. Her second album “25” was named album of the year, having sold 8.5 million copies to date in the U.S..

During her acceptance speech, Adele made it clear her admiration for her competitor Beyonce.

My artist of my life is Beyoncé,” she said. “And this album for me, the ‘Lemonade’ album is just so monumental.”

“It was so monumental and so well thought out and so beautiful and soul-bearing, and we all got to see another side of you that you don’t always let us see and we appreciate that,” Adele said from the stage to Beyoncé, who sat in the audience. “You are our light.”

“The way that you make me and my friends feel — and the way that you make my black friends feel — is empowering,” Adele continued. “You make them stand up for themselves and I love you, and I always have and I always will.”

Beyonce, however, didn’t go home empty handed. Mrs. Carter took home Best Urban Contemporary Album (“Lemonade”) and Best Music Video (“Formation”).
