Chance the Rapper held a press conference on Monday (March 6) to announce a big pay day for Chicago Public Schools.

The Chicago-native handed a $1 million check to the school system at Westcott Elementary School, which is just a couple of blocks from where he grew up.

The press conference was held shortly after a failed meeting with the governor of Illinois, Bruce Rauner. Chance states that the two discussed public education and other major concerns involving the city of Chicago and the state. Chance, however, told reporters that the meeting was “unsuccessful.” But, Rauner’s inability to act on such a huge cause as education wasn’t going to deter Chance from making the education system better.

“If the governor does not act, CPS [Chicago Public Schools] will be forced to end school 13 days early, which means over 380,000 kids will not have adult supervised activities in June and could possibly be put in harm’s way,” stated Chance.

Chance also mentioned that he’s going to call on fellow Chicago-native rapper/actor Common to see how the two can work together on several causes.
