Chance the Rapper made history at the 2017 BET Awards by becoming the youngest person ever to be awarded Humanitarian of the Year. In addition, the rapper also took home Best New Artist and Best Collaboration awards.

Chance’s contributions to the community have been another one of his commendable traits. At 24-years old, Chance has already awarded the Chicago schools a million dollars and continues to use his platform to bring awareness to various economic and social injustices.

“I’m 24 . . . and to be receiving something like this at my age, it feels, uh, a little bit . . . it feels good as hell,” he said.

“It feels a little early to get something like this, but my god doesn’t make mistakes.”

“Let everyone out of jail for selling weed before ya’ll start making it legal. . . . We gotta work on ourselves before we can work on the world, so I want to be a better father.”

But before he stepped on stage to accept his Humanitarian award, former first lady Michelle Obama greeted Chance with a special video message:

“We are so incredibly proud of you, Chance,” Michelle said. “Chance, you are an outstanding role model and an inspiration to all of us who care about our next generation. Because of you, countless young people will grow up believing in themselves.”
