Google is focused on protecting the kids in a new educational initiative aimed at online safety.

Today, Google announced their “Be Internet Aware” campaign that will help pre-teens protect themselves from online predators, scams and other internet-based issues that kids face. To assist with the roll out, Google has partnered up with the Internet Keep Safe Coalition, Family Online Safety Institute, and Connect Safely to develop curriculum for the program.

In addition to the “Be Internet Aware” campaign, Google is launching a gaming app called “Interland.”  The app is geared toward teaching children about how to navigate through the internet safely.  All of the educational tools are designed for kids 8 to 12 years old. The common age bracket when teens tend to receive their own smartphones, iPads, and other internet-equipped devices.

Teachers are also urged to use Google’s program in their classroom settings as well.
