The ASCAP organization will be honoring the late rap icon Notorious B.I.G at this year’s ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards.

The performing rights organization announced Thursday that Notorious B.I.G will received their top honor, the ASCAP Founders Award.  The event will take place on June 22 at The Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.

This will mark the 30th year for the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.

“Biggie was a legend in his own time and his legacy lives on through his music,” said ASCAP President Paul Williams. “Like all songwriters, he was a master storyteller, but it was the realism in his rhymes that captured so many.”

R&B singer and B.I.G’s former wife, Faith Evans, recently released a collaborative album with Notorious B.I.G called “The King and I.”

The Notorious B.I.G will join past ASCAP Founders Award recipients including Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney and others.

The Brooklyn rapper was shot and killed in 1997. Notorious B.I.G received multi-platinum success with only two album releases, Ready to Die and Life After Death.
