RZA’s Black Samurai television series finally found a home and Common is tapped to star in it.

On Tuesday, the STARZ network announced that Black Samurai will be added to their programming lineup. RZA, along with film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, will produce the series. Black Samurai is based on the a novel published in 1977.

Grammy Award-winning rapper and actor Common, real name Ronnie Rashid Lynn, is set to play the lead character Robert Sand in the project. Sand is an American Army Ranger pushed into a new life after his sensei and Samurai crew are killed by mercenaries.

“I’m beyond excited about ‘Black Samurai.’ This is an unique and special project that offers something rarely seen in art and culture today.”

“I can’t wait to dig into this character and the martial arts worlds of gun-fu, kung-fu, jujitsu and more. Look out world, ‘Black Samurai is coming.”

STARZ’s president of programming, Carmi Zlotnik, is also excited about the project.

“‘Black Samurai’ promises to be an action-packed ride and with the Bruckheimer team, Common, RZA and Andre at the helm, we can feel certain this will be exceptional storytelling.”
