The presence of Bruno Mars was felt throughout the 2017 American Music Awards. The pop/rock superstar wasn’t in the building, but he was able to snag seven trophies for Favorite Artist and Video of the Year to name a few.

Other notables of the evening were opening performances by Pink and Kelly Clarkson, who sung a duet of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts.” Pink also returned later in the show and performed, as well as, recent kidney transplant recipient Selena Gomez. This was Gomez’s first performance since being hospitalized.

The grand diva herself, Diana Ross, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. And, songbird Christina Aguilera took on the challenge of singing Whitney Houston classics during a tribute to the late soul singer. Aguilera’s performance received a lot of criticism from Houston fans, but what else do we expect from Twitter trolls.
