Rihanna Debuts River Island Collection @ London Fashion Week

Miss “Unapologetic” Rihanna who is often the talk of the fashion world when it comes to her own unique style now has her own clothing line.

In a joint effort with the British high street retailer River Island, Rihanna launched her line during a London Fashion Week event. The Rihanna for River Island collection is casual, yet chic and in true Ri Ri fashion some pieces are a bit risqué.  Items in the collection include midriff mess tops, skirts, slouchy jeans, and dresses.

Check out the video below to see some of the runway action of Ri Ri’s line and hear what she has to say about it all.

Pastel Colors Hit Forefront @ Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week went underway, February 9-16, in New York’s Bryant Park area. Fashion designers throughout the U.S. and internationally, all showcased new designs of their Spring 2012 collection.  While scanning through the official website, I noticed a trend in most collections.  In opposite contrast to dark hues seen on many models, there were quite a bit of pastel coloured garments.  I guess its safe to say that pastels are what we should expect to see in the spring/summer months.

Check out a few of the haute looks that hit the runway :

Mercedes-Benz 2o11 NY Fashion Week presented various designs of a diverse group of designers. But with the lack of ethnic models, some may wonder exactly which Black designers represented this year at fashion week. Although few and far between, there were a handful of notable Black designers present who showcased their most desirable pieces…fit for any race.

Fashion Designers such as Laura Smalls, Rachel Roy, Michael, Bensoni, and LaQuan Smith all strutted their designs. Check out a few pics from their runway collection:

Christina Milian Zips It Up @ LA Fashion Week; Plus New Eyewear

Christina Milian has got her SEXY back and much more!  After her recent (and scandalous) divorce from The Dream, she’s shed the post pregnancy weight and stepping right back into the groove of things.

During the LA Fashion Week, Milian debuted her new fashion eyewear line and performed her oldies and a new track from her upcoming album, Elope.  The new single, “Zipper“, was produced by her former lover The Dream and could possibly be the right hit to put her back in the game.

Runway Reviews: Fashion Week NYC – Spring 2009

New York Fashion Week started last on Sept. 5 and goes through Friday Sept. 12. We’re sure you have read all the reports and seen all the coverage of the Fashion Rocks concert that kicked it off. Now, let’s get caught up on what’s been on the New York runways for the upcoming spring season.

BCBG Max Azria‘s show was Saturday, September 06, 2008. The collection included easy, sexy silk and jersey dresses. Dresses and jumpsuits were paired with high leather platform sandals. The color palette was dominated by whites, greys, and light pastels dominating with simple accessories.

Betsy Johnson
‘s show took place today. Her guests were treated to cupcakes with the initials “BJ” to enjoy during the show as well as baby blocks, a book for her run of show and huge lollipops. Betsy’s show was divided into multiple parts, showing looks that were at once both Scarlett O’Hara-inspired and very Lolita looking.

Next up is DKNY, whose show went down on Monday. Donna Karan, who is inspired by the city streets, delivered a spectrum of joy and creativity to celebrate DKNY’s 20th anniversary. The Spring 2009 collection pays homage to the past with 80′s neon and exaggerated bows. Some of DKNY’s signature pieces also emerged, including the jumpsuit, the DKNY tee, vests, utilitarian pants, the staple trench, denim suits and the essential jersey dress.

That’s it for now, but stay tuned for more coverage as we will try to bring you shots from ALL the runways in this years NYC Spring 09 Fashion Week!

#1 – Use your American Express card – Amex normally has a Skybox reserved at several shows during NY Fashion Week. If you are big spender, you may be able to cop tickets to see your favorite designer.

#2 – Get a luxury suite at W Hotel in NY – The W Hotel offers a Catwalk package that include cocktails, VIP passes to the W Hotels Worldwide Backstage Lounge at the tents in Bryant Park, Bliss’s best-selling Triple Oxygen Mask, a built-in late (3 p.m.) check-out, and Two VIP Tickets to a Runway Show at Bryant Park. This season, tickets are available for the following shows: Perry Ellis, Lacoste, Rock & Republic, Tracy Reese, Herve Leger, Tibi, Miss Sixty, Diesel, Nanette Lepore, and Custo Barcelona.

The Catwalk packages sell out very fast. So if you want one, you’d better cop one now! (Source)

2008 – 2009 Shoe Trends: TOES

It’s been a while, but Square toes are back. No, not the fully squared toed, but a tapered toe with a short blunt nose, closed or opened. Very modern and edgy. This would be a good style if you are going for the professional look.

With the Stiletto making a marvelous comeback (as we talked about earlier in “HEELS”) it’s long-time partner the Pointed toes could not stay away too long and are seen on the runways of Balenciaga, Chado Ralph Rucci and Roberto

While we’re on the subject of toes…Did you ever think you would be the one to wear open toed shoes with tights? Well, what our mothers and grandmothers used to wear to work is actually found to be fashionable today. Just ask Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, or Valentino. One good thing is that you can now where your summer shoes during the winter.

And there you have it – Heels & Toes. Stay Tuned for more on Styles & Colors
Where to find: Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales

Lepore’s VOTE bag

Fashion Designer Nanette Lepore, who believes strongly in the power of voting, recently teamed up with actress Kerry Washington and the Creative Coalition to encourage voter registration at her boutique opening on Melrose Avenue.

A little history: Nanette Lapore became interested in fashion at the pubescent age of 9. She dressed a young friend in a bedspread and choker, and with a makeshift logo “Lepore” the young girl posed in the family’s front yard. Nanette grew up free spirited, her parents encouraged her creativity. She went on to complete her undergraduate studies at Youngstown University, then moved to New York and attended New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology.

After working in design studios for a while, Nanette grew anxious and decided it was time to strike out on her own. In 1992 her father granted her a $5,000 loan to set up shop in a penthouse office in the garment district.

Nanette is now known worldwide with boutiques in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Boston, Chicago, London and Tokyo; her brand includes two fragrance lines and a shoe collection. Her designs are described as “Suitable for a tea at The Ritz or a night out on the town, each collection balances feminine details with a seductive sensibility”, and are worn by the likes of editors, chic style-makers and celebrities such as America Ferrara, Eva Longoria, and of course Kerry Washington. You can find her designs at nanettelepore.com.
