Dollars & Sense: Why Corporations Do Not Support Freedom of Speech?
Lately there’s been a rash of artists under scrutiny for their lyrics and artistic expression. Although many might argue that artists should have the right to say what they want, corporations have a slightly different point of view. The most recent case involves Lil Wayne, rapper and CEO of YMCMB. The New Orleans born emcee was dropped from PepsiCo as an endorser of their Mountain Dew soda product. The reason was due to an offensive reference made about Emmett Till, a young man brutally murdered in Mississippi during the civil rights era.
Wayne’s offensive lyrics was recorded on Future’s “Karate Chop” song. Due to the widespread negative press and disgust by Emmett Till’s family, PepsiCo decided to end their relationship with Lil Wayne. As such with Miami-rapper Rick Ross who, also, was dropped by a major corporation for his drug and rape reference in “U.E.O.N.O.” Reebok severed their ties with the Maybach Music Group CEO, costing Ross several millions in endorsement money [READ HERE].
The recent string of events proves that there’s no such thing as “freedom of speech” to corporations. The “bottom-line” in revenue dollars is what companies are most concerned with. For Reebok and PepsiCo, the impact of the negative press translated into a decline in sales. But also, the offensive and derogatory lyrics could have potentially tarnished their brands. Words can be deadly. Yet, many artists fail to realize this and continue to degrade our women, glorify drugs and guns, and/or promote domestic violence. At some point, artists should be held accountable for what they say. Lyrics not only affect a company’s ability to sell products and make money, but they also confirm this negative perception of people and communities that are already oppressed.
At the end of the day, freedom of speech hurts us and the corporations. It shows that some artists aren’t versatile enough to talk about other things. Also, it shows companies that taking a risk by hiring an artist to endorse a product may not always be the best thing. You can make millions or easily lose millions. Therefore, it is certain that the way corporations issue endorsement deals in the future will take on a different approach. Don’t be surprised if stricter clauses are incorporated in these agreements.
What do you think? Do you think artists should watch what they say in songs? Let us know we’d like to know how you feel.

It’s been a minute since there’s been visuals released off of 2 Chainz debut album, B.O.A.T.S.. Tour dates or numerous features on other projects may be the reason for the delay. $1 Rumors: Miami-based Law Firm Wins $3.4 Million Judgment Against Lil Wayne
It seems like seizures aren’t the only problems constantly surfacing in Lil Wayne’s life.
According to reports, a Miami-based attorney recently was awarded a $1.2 million judgment against the YMCMB CEO. The monies awarded are to pay for the legal fees acquired by attorney David Goldstein. Goldstein represented plaintiffs who claimed that Lil Wayne didn’t properly execute a contract in place. The lawsuit was brought forth in Los Angeles and thus the original judgment of $2.2 million was awarded there. But, in a recent twist of events, Goldstein is now seeking that the judgment be moved to Miami, Florida.
Apparently, Lil Wayne or his company hasn’t paid any of the $3.4 million judgment. So, Goldstein is petitioning to have the suit domesticated to Miami-Dade county so that Weezy’s personal assets can be seized until full payment is made.
Goldstein has his sights on Lil Wayne’s sprawling $11.6 million mansion in the private community of La Gorce Island. In addition to rapper’s home, Goldstein also wants to seize the black Bugatti Veyron Wayne owns. Damn!
SMH…we’ll keep you posted as this story develops.
New Vid: Nicki Minaj – “High School” feat. Lil Wayne
OK Nicki!!! I’m digging this joint.
Nicki Minaj dropped her new video for “High School” which features her bossman Lil Wayne. The video is a nice sunny vid, perfect segway into the spring/summer season. In the midst of a little action, the chemistry between Wayne and Nicki is very prevelant. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think they were a bonafide couple. LOL

New Music: Birdman – “Tapout” feat. Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Mack Maine, & Future
One thing about Birdman, he knows how to creep up on you with new music.
His newest joint “Tapout” is an ode to those with that bomb sex game. You know the kind that’s so good, you can’t go any longer…you just want to “tap out”. Well, Birdman has the mood music to go right along with that explosive night of pleasure. However, he brought along his newly formed ‘Rich Gang’ which consists of Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Mack Maine, and Future. Not sure if all of them were needed on this joint. But, it’s cool nevertheless.
Check it out for yourself below…
“Tapout” will be featured on Birdman’s Rich Gang: Flashy Lifestyle compilation album. It is due out May 21.
Lil Wayne’s ‘I AM Not A Human Being II’ Snippets Hit The Net [Audio]
Last week, the official tracklist for Lil Wayne’s ‘I Am Not A Human Being II’ was officially announced. We mentioned that the YMCMB gang will make appearances and others like Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Gunplay, and Soulja Boy. Well, apparently 30-sec snippets of each song has been made public. In case you’re wondering if Wayne’s next album will live up to the hype, take a listen below…
Lil Wayne’s ‘I Am Not a Human Being II’ [Official Tracklist]
While his single with 2 Chainz ”Rich As F–k” gets major rotation in the streets, Lil Wayne may have a few more bangers on his upcoming album. ‘I Am Not a Human Being II’ is set to be released on March 26. Hopefully, since the lable has released his official tracklist this means there won’t be any push backs. If all goes well, his fans can expect a pretty solid album from the looks of the line-up.
On the new album, Weezy lovers can expect to new joints with Nicki Minaj, Boo, Gudda Gudda, Soulja Boy, Gunplay, Juicy J, and Big Sean. Other familiar tracks we won’t mind listening to again, “B-tches Love Me” (feat. Drake & Future) and ”No Worries” (feat. Detail) are also on the new album. Check out the full tracklist below:
1. IANAHB
2. Curtains (Feat. Boo)
3. Days and Days (Feat. 2 Chainz)
4. Gunwalk (Feat. Gudda Gudda)
5. No Worries (Feat. Detail)
6. Back to You
7. Trigger Finger (Feat. Soulja Boy)
8. Beat the Sh*t (Feat. Gunplay)
9. Rich As F*uk (Feat. 2 Chainz)
10. Trippy (Feat. Juicy J)
11. Bi**hes Love Me (Feat. Drake and Future)
12. Romance
13. God Bless Amerika
14. My Homies Still (Feat. Big Sean)
15. Lay You Down (Feat. Nicki Minaj)
Will Lil Wayne keep us interested with this one? That’s the question many of his fans are wondering. As he dives into the fashion world (TrukFit) and skateboarding, some folks aren’t certain that his lyrical content and mass appeal are still holding weight. Hopefully, ‘I Am Not a Human Being II’ will prove critics wrong and show that he’s still one of the best in the game.
New Music: Lil Wayne – Awkward
Not sure what to think of this track. The beat, produced by Jahlil Beats, is kinda dope. But, Wayne’s “chant” flow sounds a bit lackadaisical and awkward. Guess it’s a good thing this was just a mixtape cut (on DJ Stevie J’s ‘The Appreciation Vol 5′).

Is This It For Lil Wayne’s Rap Career?? + Official “No Worries” Video
After becoming a rapper at the ripe young age of 8, Lil Wayne (who’s 30 years old now) recently expressed his doubts of ever rapper again. In a sit down with MTV’s Sway, the Young Money CEO says he’s no longer feeling the love for his career choice. With other business ventures in the works (i.e. TrukFit), his focus is now driven elsewhere and he wants to devote the time and energy to those things.
When Sway asked about the sonic makeup of “Human Being II,” the rapper compared the work to what should be the next chapter in his most famous musical franchise. “It’s like a Carter V,” he said.
So why not just retitle Human “Being II” to fit the mood? “Because I know y’all want me around for a little bit, and ‘Carter V’ is my last album,” Weezy revealed. “Man, I’ve been rappin’ since I was 8 years old. I’m 30 now, man. That’s a long time, man.”
“Human Being II” will be released on Feb. 19, and after that, it’s unclear when “Tha Carter V” will come or if there will be another album between the two? What’s clear is that Wayne has other interests outside the studio, most notably his love for skateboarding and his new TrukFit clothing line. “When I love to do something, I’m fully focused on it and it only. And music sometimes is not that ‘it,’ ” he said.
“I signed my contract at 11, I went platinum at 14. I’m 30 now. Thank God I haven’t put out an album that hasn’t went platinum,” he said. “To just keep it goin’ like that, I think not only am I being greedy, I’m fooling myself to think that it will continue to be that great.”
So, is Weezy making the right decision? Some may feel like it’s good to stop when you are on top. But, others like Jay-Z continues to put out great music despite his age. Lil Wayne may just be at a place where he wants to redirect his ambition. Also, this could give listeners a break from hearing him on damn near every song on the radio. Maybe this is another reason why he’s ready to give up music. Too much of something can become overwhelming. Nevertheless, Lil Wayne has enough money and top artists to sustain a long period of hibernation. He has Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, and the other YMCMB artists to sit back and parlay on.
But at this moment, he’s gearing up for I Am Not A Human Being II. The first single, “No Worries” is smash hit that’s been blasting in all the clubs. Check out the video premier below:
New Vid: Kelly Rowland’s “Ice”
Kelly Rowland recently released another song for the grown and sexy better known as “Ice.” The song is the lead single of her upcoming album Year of the Woman which is scheduled for release early next year.
Well to add even more uumph to the song is a hot, heavy and sexually charged video to go along with it. Let’s just say there lots of ice rubbing and freak me down dance moves popping off in this one. Even the video’s director, Matthew Rolston said, “It’s a very, very, very, very sexy video!” Oh and don’t bother waiting for Lil Wayne whose featured on the song to appear because he never will. But don’t worry, his verse is still there. Check out the video below…

The Olympicks Join The YMCMB Family
Every other week it seems as if the YMCMB family multiplies to some degree. Next up to be added to their roster is the Michigan-based production team The Olympicks. Producers Knoxville, Flawless, BP, and JayFab make up the team.
No stranger to the industry, The Olympicks have already their share of success creating hits for artists such as Rick Ross, 2Chainz, Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar. But in addition to his clothing line, Wayne revealed to MTV News his upcoming skateboarding shoe with SUPRA.
“I was just rocking them when I was skating and stuff and when I got real cool with the homey [professional skateboarder] Stevie Williams, it was kinda like a plug from him,” said Wayne. “He [Williams] been with SUPRA. He just let them know. Even before I was skating, I was rocking SUPRAs before I even knew what they were. It was just a mutual respect on each end so it was just bound to happen.”
