The 55th Grammys Award show went underway last night. Besides tuning in to see the great performances, many people tuned in to see the red carpet arrivals. Who doesn’t love to see the latest in fashion trends on some of our favorite celebrities?!!  Get into a few of the looks from last night…

#FashionFail: Leggings For Men aka “Meggings”

Are they serious??!!  Just when you thought fashion choices for men couldn’t get any more outrageous…

Celebs like Kanye West, P. Diddy, and Chad Johnson have courageously worn kilts in public. Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, and others has embraced the whole skinny jeans movement. Now, to take things a step further, men are rocking female leggings.  Designers are capitalizing on the fashion trend and creatively coined the name “meggings” to describe this type of pant.  Rock artists historically are known to wear tight fitting pants or meggings. But, meggings hit the rap world when A$AP Rocky graced 106 & Park with a long dress shirt and meggings.  We’re all for being unique and fashion forward. But, are designers taking it too far?

MMG’s Stalley Enters Fashion World with ‘Blue Collar Gang’

Maybach Music Group’s own, Stalley, has entered the fashion game with new clothing line. Monikered after his B.C.G affiliation, the Blue Collar Gang line features affordable attire made for the average man. Currently in Villa stores in the Midwest and East Coast, BCG offers t-shirts, sweat shirts, and hoodies.

“The brand BCG represents blue collar hardworking individuals. People who are family-oriented with family values and self-made attitudes. I want to make a line that represents those people and that is affordable, comfortable, and stylish. Indicative of the environment in Massillon, I was raised in.” – Stalley

The clothing line adorn the graphic designs and custom logo from two counterparts, Ben Ferenz and BJ Betts.

Style Verdict: Love & Hip Hop ATL Reunion

Monday night, VH1′s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta aired the first of their two-part reunion show. Joseline, Mimi, K. Michelle, Karlie Redd, Rasheeda, Erica, Momma Dee, Lil Scrappy, Benzino, Stevie J, and Ariane were all in attendance to get some sh*t off their chest. Plainly put, the reunion show was OFF THE CHAIN! Not so much regarding the negative stereotypes critics say is a disgrace to Black culture, but in a hour viewers laughed their butts off to pure comedy.

Despite a little bafoonery here and there, the ladies and gents kept their composure for the most part.  Sometimes it takes a person to get all dressed up (except for Stevie J who chose to wear a polo shirt and jeans) for them to keep it classy. Thus, this recap is all about the reunion show fashions. Who hit the mark? Who did not?  Let’s take a quick look back and decide…

The self-proclaimed “baddest b*tch” Ms. Joseline wore a electric blue wrap dress. The dress had a long slit that was stragetically worn to entice the viewers and members of the audience. She definitely exudes sex appeal in a “womanly” kind of way. But, to match the dress with some clear hooker heels was not the move.  It didn’t give her overall look the cohesive-yet-stylish feel that we’re sure Joseline was going for.  As for her makeup and hair, the b*tch was beat! Yes Gawd!

Karlie Redd…oh Karlie. *sigh*  The red sequins cocktail dress and black sparkly pumps didn’t hit the mark. Not that it was ugly. It was just safe! She could have brought it a little more.  Not having a standout role on LHHATL should have been motivation to create a shock factor at the reunion.  Oh well…maybe next year Karlie!

Atlanta’s underground rap diva, Rasheeda, too kept it simple.  The black and gold freakum dress and sparkly gold pumps wasn’t anything fantastic. But I guess with a pretty face and nice hair, a chick don’t have to get too wild with the clothes. Rasheeda’s hair was laid and her face was beat.  She looked nice!

Self-sufficient..but still the most confused of them all, Mimi Faust, kept it classy in a pink/fuschia satin dress and nude pumps.  Thank Gawd for the pumps! Because if she wore them nude wedges (we’ve seen ALL season) one more time…!!! SMH   Her whole outfit was age appropriate. It was overall a good look for Mimi.  But, if she could’ve chosen a style-forward hair style, her look would’ve been complete.

Stevie J maintained his persona in red jeans and a polo shirt. Honestly, I don’t blame Stevie. The LHHATL set looked low-budgety and thrown together. So, why even put in the effort to get all dressed up?! Really…like what for??

Erica, Scrappy, and Momma Dee decided on black as the focal color.  The “Put Dem Paws On Ya” hit’em up squad tried their best.  Erica, who is truly a stunning brown skinned woman, wore a cute spaghetti strapped dress.  Her shoes were black with a gold platform at the bottom.  Her hair, however, was too “im on my way down the altar”-ish.  Overall, Erica looked good.

Scrappy wore grey jeans, a black vest, a white wide collar shirt. Why the big collar Scrap?!!  Should we assume you went DOLO and styled yourself? It sure looks like it.  But, we’ll give you a C for at least trying.

Last, but not to be forgotten, is K. Michelle and Mona.  K. Michelle wore an electric blue jumper with gold Lou’s.  The blue really popped on K.  And the shoes set it off in the right way.   While K. Michelle gave the cameras a lot of cleavage, the extended diamond cross earrings made a statement of their own.  The disappointment though was her hair.  We didn’t quite understand what it was suppose to look like.  As much as K like to change hairstyles, most of her fans thought she could’ve done much better.

Mona Scott, the executive producer of the show and host, wore a off-white pants suit and snake skin pumps.  She made a decent statement with the hint of color on her shirt.  Mona looked age appropriate and like a true boss lady.

Fall Fashion Trends: Leather, Leopard, and Lace

This morning, the weather was in the 60′s here in Atlanta.  Luckily, I had a three quarter length Gap jacket as I arrived back home from Miami. If not, chill bumps would’ve quickly appeared on my arms as I walked out of baggage claim door S5.  But, I am not leery of the sudden change of weather. I am ready to embrace it. It is the coming of my favorite season…Fall!  And with fall comes great fashion.

The 2012 fall season of warm colors, heavier sport coats, booties, etc is expected to be dramatic and sophisticated. Fashion houses and designers focused in on three key fabrics this year. Those key fabrics are Leather, Leopard, and Lace.  All three of these items speaks sexiness.  From skinny leg jeans to shift dresses, either one can be paired with other colors to offset the richness of these fabrics.  If you dare to standout with sophistication, there are many options to choose from.  Here are a few I picked out for the fashionably conscious:

Summer Fashion Trend: Forehead Bands

Forget about hats or a standard headband…the latest fashion trend can help any chick having a bad hair day.

Forehead bands crept up in the fashion world a couple years ago when stars like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie found a clever way to jazz up their looks.  From very inexpensive chains or high-end jeweled bands,  these bands offers an unique flavor to any outfit.  This accessory can be found in any department store or online.  If you wish to rock a simple slick-back hairdo, throw in a cute twist with one of these forehead bands.

Mike Vick’s Getting To The Money with New Clothing Line

Michael Vick’s career has truly did a 360 degree turn.  After returning to the league with great praise, showing us all that he’s stil got skills on the field, and recently wedding his longtime girlfriend Kijafa Frink, Mike Vick’s life is blessed.  But the buck will not stop there. He’s just launched a new clothing line, called V7.

During his Atlanta Falcons days, Mike Vick’s name and number garnered one of the highest-grossing jerseys ever to sell.  So it may be safe to say that the V7 line stands a great chance at becoming a real money maker.

According to the Associated Press, the V7 line will include t-shirts, shorts, and tank tops.  The prices range from $12.99 to $19.99.  Also to continue his philanthropic efforts, proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia.

2012 Fashion Trend: “Green” Garments

Ever wanted to be an overall eco-friendly fashionista but had no clue how to begin???  Well, look no further, many designers are now evolving organic fabrics into their esthetics.  The very popular H&M stores are currently carrying a line of trendy “green” garments. These fierce peices are not expensive, but very affordable…staying true to form to H&M’s style.

It is iconic in the eyes (and closets) of many well-known celebrities, public figures, and unknowns who’s serious about their fashion.

     The Birkin bag can range anywhere from $9,000 to $150,000.  Because of it’s limited distribution, celebrities are put on a “waiting” list.  Some celebrities have been known to have waited over a year before they got their bag. 

The very exclusive Birkin is not for everyone (as you can see).   Only those who can truly afford one should carry one.  But, if you got the dough to drop on one of these beauties, by all means, get one!  They come in a wide variety of colors, styles, and can be worn with casual clothing or something dressier.

Do you remember in the ’80s when neon was in style? Do you remember the hideous biker shorts with the neon pink, green, or orange stripe down the side?  LOL…no matter what form of garment you’d wear, it seemed as though every peice incorporated at least one color out of the basic neon color scheme.

Pastel Colors Hit Forefront @ Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week went underway, February 9-16, in New York’s Bryant Park area. Fashion designers throughout the U.S. and internationally, all showcased new designs of their Spring 2012 collection.  While scanning through the official website, I noticed a trend in most collections.  In opposite contrast to dark hues seen on many models, there were quite a bit of pastel coloured garments.  I guess its safe to say that pastels are what we should expect to see in the spring/summer months.

Alexander McQueen Debuts New Affordable Line…McQ

Last year, fashion houses and trendsetters alike were all shocked of the untimely death of designer Alexander McQeen. His avant garde but trendy designs were a hit amongst the chic celebrities and ladies who could afford it. But now, the McQueen brand is branching out with a new affordable line called McQ. The new label will debut Spring 2012 and will be sold at the first flagship store in London.

Well, it’s 2011 and the spring time is already here. It’s crazy how time flies, right! Each year, fashionistas around the globe bite their nails in anticipation wondering what will be the new trend. From animal prints, metallics, floral, block colors, etc, the various fabric styles never cease to amaze the Carrie Bradshaw’s of the world. In 2011, while scanning through a few fashion websites, the trend for this spring/summer season is STRIPES! The stripe pattern was made famous in nautical wear along with your standard mens’ shirt and pant. But outside of that norm, this trend is heating up and is being worn in several unique ways. According to Fashionising.com, the key to wearing stripes is that it must dominate the outfit. If you wear a pair of striped sandals, that may not stand out. Or wearing too many striped accessories may cause some visual confusion. So make sure that the stripe clothing peice you wear is a dress or shirt. These garment peices are dominant and can visually be seen as the standout peice. Another thing to note is that it is OK to wear stripes with a floral print. Several celebrities have pulled this look off very well and you can too!
