The late Tupac Shakur’s hit song “Dear Mama” has earned the prestigious honor of being inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. Under the guidelines of the National Recording Preservation Act, a work has to be “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” and at least 10 years old to be considered for nomination.

Upon being cited, Shakur’s “Dear Mama” was listed as being a moving and eloquent homage to both the murdered rapper’s own mother and all mothers struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty and societal indifference.”

This year’s list of inducted recordings also features Little Richard’s “Tutti Frutti”, R.E.M.’s “Radio Free Europe” and Willie Nelson’s album “Red Headed Stranger”.

The National Recording Registry now houses 300 recordings.
