On Saturday, March 15, the Bizarre World “Art and Hair Exhibit” went underway in Montclair, New Jersey at The Loft. This event was not your typical art exhibit or hair show. Instead, attendees were invited to take a look into the creative and bizarre minds of Tia “Bone Artist” Jannah and Amira Jannah,“Editorial Hair Stylist”.

Tia created and displayed three separate series during this live exhibit. “Rhythm”, which features instruments made out of bone with a Mardi Gras Jazz Band feel. The “Black Kermet” pieces channel life and beginnings. Then, “Dominatrix”, which was more abstract and sexual. Tia’s choice of material to create her works of art is bone because it is recycled and allows her to bring purpose and life back to dead matter.

Amira, who specializes in magazine and runway hair styling, covered the models body’s in metallic body and spray paints from head to toe along with creating hairstyles which complimented the art. “I love to be creative,” Amira said. “From that aspect, it is art. The hair is my medium and the model is my canvas.”

The night was not only filled with art – throughout the night there were floating trays of food and wine accompanied by live performances from up and coming hip hop and R&B artists – along with spoken word from poets. Bizarre World “Hair and Art Exhibit” was a night to remember and although it marks the first artistic collaboration between the sister-in-laws/ best friends, both said that this will be the first of many. Amira and Tia are already in the preliminary stages of planning a reprise exhibit at the end of the summer. “We want to travel the country and, eventually, the world,” said Tia.
