It is a pleasure to see hip-hop artists give back to the community. And Queens, NY emcee, Nas, is putting his best foot forward with his new “Nas Scholarship Fund.”

Nasir Jones and his Queens Venture Partner‘s investment firm has team up with an exclusive post-graduate job placement program called Koru. The Nas Scholarship Fund  is an investment in Koru, which selects exceptional college grads and send them through job training. With the scholarship, graduates accepted will also receive help with job placements.

Over 13 colleges are part of the program and most recently two graduates were awarded scholarships: Marixa Rodriquez (Occidental University) and Steve Simbert (Georgetown University).

Nas recently spoke about The Nas Scholarship Fund and the importance of using your talents towards a career.

I’m inspired to support Koru participants because I know how hard it can be to carve out your path and purpose in life.  It takes conviction, hard work and the right network. The young people going through Koru are gritty, book smart and street smart.  The Koru program gives them an opportunity to put those smarts to work. I can’t wait to work directly with them and share what I’ve learned through my own life experiences.

College grads who would like to be considered for the scholarship, the next deadline for applications is June 9th. To submit applications for the September programs in Seattle and San Francisco, you must submit those by June 30th.
