‘Drumline: A New Beat’ Private Screening @ Bronze Lens Festival [PHOTOS]

In its fifth year, the Bronze Lens Festival of Atlanta has become one of the premier film festivals for filmmakers of color. Over the span of four days, attendees are privy to expert industry panels and a plethora of indie films. Filmmakers from all across world travel to Atlanta to partake in festival activities.

This year, a private screening of Drumline: A New Beat was held at the Landmark Midtown Theater. This film is the sequel to the popular 2002 cult classic Drumline, which starred Nick Cannon. Although the film will not be in theaters, Cannon – who is one of the films executive producers – believes the sequel will still have the same impact as the original.

“People told me back then they went to an HBCU because of that movie,” said Cannon, who starred in the original film as Devon Miles, a teenage drummer who went from a New York high school to the fictitious Atlanta A&T with the hopes of claiming drum section leader. “That film made being in a marching band cool. I think this new one could have the same effect.” (via WRAL)

Drumline: A New Beat will air on Monday, Oct. 27th at 9pm EST on VH1.

For the Atlanta screening, several film veterans and celebrities came out to catch a sneak peek before it airs. In the building were Carl Payne (“Martin”), Jasmine Burke (“The Secret Life of Bees”), director Billy Woodruff, Lisa Arrindell Anderson (“Madea’s Family Reunion”), Big Tigger (V103FM), Keshia Knight Pulliam (“Madea Goes to Jail”), philanthropist Chanita Foster, and many others.
