VH1’s “Sorority Sisters” will air its final episode this Friday, January 16.

After much public scrutiny and pull out from advertisers, the reality show centered around the lives of African-American sorority sisters has been “unofficially” canceled. The news hit the web on yesterday with no formal statement from VH1 or executive producers of the show. However, the schedule posted for this week’s airing suggests that VH1 has had enough.

“Sorority Sisters” will air its final three episodes on Friday evening at the awkward time of 11:10pm. Also, West Coast fans will not get an opportunity to tune in, for the cable network will not repeat the episodes at all.

Since the show’s pre-marketing campaign, “Sorority Sisters” received harsh criticism on a national level. A big portion of the viewing public petitioned to have the show banned, but Vh1 decided to move forward with the premiere. Although it fared in viewership, people scrutinized the corporations who were advertising during show. Over 50 advertisers ultimately removed their ads from the show’s schedule.

Although the financial impact was a major blow for VH1, the heavy onset of disgruntle Greeks played a big role in the show’s removal.

Sorors, fraternities, and their respective organizations believed that the conduct portrayed on the show was not an accurate representation of the legacy set forth by their founders. Some of the cast received death threats, constant negative jabs on social media, and even suspension letters from their chapters. VH1 recently aired a special sit down interview where the cast spoke candidly about the backlash and their feelings about their portrayal. Check out the episode below:

The debate continues. But, the question now is will they bring the show back under a new name or is this it?? All of the cast used this platform to help create or increase their fanbase. So, what will the fans have to look forward to now?  Although each of the women own businesses, there’s a big difference when you are a TV personality. Hopefully, VH1 or some other network recognize their individual talent and book them to be apart of another show.

We hate to see bright, well-educated women out of a job.

WHAT IS YOUR POSITION? DO YOU THINK THE SHOW SHOULD BE CANCELED? DO YOU THINK THE CAST PORTRAYED THEIR SORORITIES IN A NEGATIVE LIGHT?
