If you want to enter the audio podcast game, first things first. You must decide what your premise will be. What will be your niche? Many podcast got their start based on an existing blog. There are lots of bloggers who are now using the podcast platform to talk about their blog content and broaden their audience/readership. Podcast are good for expanding on a topic as well. They are similar to a video blog (or vlog), but instead podcast streams audio.

To start this process, creating a premise is mandatory. So, here are some things to think about while you’re brainstorming…

Will a podcast benefit you? If so, how?

What would your listeners (and potentially new listeners) want to hear?

Will your podcast last 30 minutes? 1 hour?

Will you be the only host? Will you have a co-host?

Will you have guests? How often will you have guests on the podcast?

Will the podcast run like a radio talk-show? Will you have music or advertising breaks, sound effects, etc? Or will you just speak straight-forward and direct without the extra?

Will your podcast have a show outline? Will it be organized?

The questions above will assist you in creating a premise and establishing the overall aesthetic for the podcast. Pre-planning is always a good thing. It safes you time and listeners.
