No Permit No Sale

Overton, Texas police shut down lemonade stand….

Sandi Evans, the mother of Andria Green (age 8) and Zoey (age 7), was in shock when police shutdown her kids lemonade stand.

Texas police arrived to the scene where the little girls where selling lemonade to raise money for their Father’s Day gift and requested that the stand be shutdown. The police stated that the little girls where required to have a permit to sell on the street. The Evans girls were selling lemonade for 50 cents and kettle corn for one dollar. The police agreed to waive the permit fee, however, requested that they go to city hall to get a permit.

Once the family arrived at city hall they were redirected to check in with the health department. According to Texas law, the sale of food that requires temperature control to prevent spoiling is illegal without a permit. “It’s because of the bacteria that can grow in the lemonade,” Police Chief Carter says. “The popcorn they were selling was perfectly legal.” The mother of the children told KLTV that sending them to the health department was too much and was ridiculous.
