Quarterback Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers agreed to a four-year extension. The deal is worth $83.25 million with a guaranteed $65 million. The $65 million is highest guaranteed money of any player in the NFL. Rivers was in the final year of his contract and is scheduled to make $15.75 million this season.

Rivers passed for 4,286 yards with 31 touchdowns and 18 interceptions last season. Signing Rivers was crucial for the Chargers with the success he has had since becoming the starting QB in 2006. Rivers has led the Chargers to four division titles, one AFC Championship Game and five postseason appearances. The Charges haven’t made the playoffs since the 2013 season and finished with a 9-7 record last season finishing third in the AFC West.

Rivers is the Chargers all-time leader in wins and only need three more touchdowns to become the Chargers all-time leader in touchdowns. The 33-year old QB, five-time Pro Bowler will remain with the Chargers until the 2019 season and most likely will retire with San Diego.
